Department of Physics and Astronomy

Research

The physics research effort at DU is rapidly growing, with six new faculty hired in the last three years. Our research efforts are focused in four main areas: astronomy and astrophysics, atmospheric science, biophysics, and condensed matter and materials physics. We interact closely with other departments at DU throughly the newly established Integrated Molecular Life Science and Biophysics program and the Center for Nanoscience Science and Engineering. Many of the faculty carry out collaborative research with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden. We pursue both experimental and computational research approaches. The department is well equipped with standard measurement and characterization equipment, and faculty and students have access to DU's new BlueRosa computer cluster.
